1 / 6The Mizuno Neo Vista is the latest addition to Mizuno's line of super training shoes, designed for experienced runners looking for a combination of protection and dynamism in their workouts. It stands out for its high functionality and technological adaptation of competition models but in this case for everyday use.
The new Mizuno Neo Vista, a shoe born with a clear philosophy, to apply the technology that is already present in the fastest shoes of the brand to daily training shoes like this model.
The Mizuno Neo Vista is a running shoe that seeks the perfect balance between reactivity and cushioning thanks to the presence of the new addition to the Enerzy family, the Mizuno Enerzy nxt, a soft compound made with bio materials such as sugar cane.
Outstanding features of the new Mizuno Neo Vista
The Japanese brand Mizuno continues to expand its already extensive catalog of running shoes with this new model that is made, in part, with recycled materials, a commitment of the brand with a greener and more sustainable future. In this sense, the brand will boost its reforestation activities with this new model to offset the carbon footprint generated during the entire manufacturing process.
- Midsole profile: 44mm in the heel, offering a high profile for increased cushioning.
- Nylon plate: Incorporates a vegetable nylon plate reinforced with fiberglass, optimizing stiffness and providing a catapult effect with every step.
- Smooth Speed Assist Technology: Facilitates a smooth transition of the foot during the race, adapting a less pronounced heel angle compared to previous models.
- Mizuno Enerzy Nxt Material: First time used in Mizuno, this material offers a balance between lightness and cushioning, ideal for long term training.
- Upper design: Bootie-style upper with stretch Knit fabric, promoting a comfortable and flexible fit that adapts to the shape of the foot.
The upper of the shoe has a seamless upper that provides great comfort when running with them. In addition, the bootie design ensures a perfect fit of our foot inside the shoe.
Also noteworthy in the upper is the tongue made of a knit fabric that is integrated into the upper to give us a greater sense of comfort and perfect fit.
The back of the shoe is elevated and has inner protections in the ankle and Achilles tendon area, thus providing greater protection and stability in each of our strides.
It is a fast shoe in which we find the SSA (Smooth Speed Assist) technology, alsopresent in the fastest models of the brand and which is characterized by a higher heel to enhance reactivity, however, the degree of inclination of the heel is lower than in most running shoes from Mizuno.
The Wave platform of the shoe is entirely plant-based, made from castor oil and mixed with fiberglass to provide greater rigidity and, therefore, greater reactivity.
The shoe has a removable PU insole that gives us an initial sensation of comfort when we put the shoe on for the first time, as well as providing extra cushioning, which is always appreciated during training over longer distances.
In the midsole we find the new Mizuno Enerzy nxt compound, which is committed to recycled materials in its development, with the main objective of obtaining greater reactivity and lightness.
The Mizuno Neo Vista has a wider sole, wider than usual, to provide great stability while running with them.
The compound present in the outsole is the X10, mixed with Bloom (algae compound) to improve sustainability and give us great durability and grip to the ground.
As for the technical specifications of the shoe, it has a weight of 265 grams and a drop of 8 mm, with very high profiles, located at 365 mm in the front and 44.5 mm in the rear.
Ideal runner profile of the Mizuno Neo Vista
It is a shoe designed for light to medium weight runners (up to 80 kg) with a neutral stride and a great running technique to get the most out of the shoe's performance.
In terms of paces and distances, it is a fast shoe with which you can comfortably run medium and long distances on asphalt.
In short, we are facing one of the main novelties of the Japanese brand in which innovation and recycled materials go hand in hand to make this Mizuno Neo Vista a technologically advanced shoe.
Review of Mizuno Neo Vista
Amaia Cabezudo
TesterMizuno Neo Vista: A super shoe with soft but dynamic cushioning
Since the mass adoption of new generation foams and plates in running shoes, new categories and sub-segments have been created within running. Supertrainers, such as the Mizuno Neo Vista, which combine high profiles and soft foams to protect the musculature, while maintaining the agile dynamics and a certain bounce that makes them more versatile than traditional training shoes. These shoes are designed primarily for training, although they can also be used to compete over long distances at moderate paces.
First impressions
The design of the Mizuno Neo Vista stands out from the very first moment. They are strident and visually striking shoes. Mizuno has always been known for its eye-catching designs, and the Neo Vista is no exception. The vibrant color scheme and reflective detailing not only make them attractive, but also safe to run in low-light conditions. The absence of the word "Wave" in the name may surprise many, but this model features an internal plate along the entire midsole that adapts to the biomechanics of the foot, providing support and stability with every stride.
The upper of the shoe is made of a bootie-like material that wraps around the foot like a sock. This sock-like design, made of neoprene and elastic materials, ensures a snug fit without pressure points, enhancing the feeling of integration of the foot with the shoe.
State-of-the-art technology and materials
The Mizuno Neo Vista is equipped with the new Mizuno Enerzy Nxt foam, which redefines the cushioning and energy return experience. This foam provides superior shock absorption and a bouncy feel with every stride.
During my testing, I noticed that this feature dramatically improves running efficiency, allowing for a more energetic take-off and less fatigue build-up over longer distances.
The feel of the Enerzy Nxt is surprisingly soft and gentle, especially for those used to Mizunos firmer compounds. When you start running with them, you feel an exceptional softness and bounce, similar to running on a trampoline. In addition, the midsole geometry, called Smooth Speed Assist, pushes you forward, facilitating a smoother and more efficient transition with every stride.
The inner plate: dynamism and support
An outstanding feature of the Mizuno Neo Vista is the inclusion of an internal plate made from castor oil and reinforced with fiberglass, which provides extra dynamism and support. This plate is not made of carbon, as we said, but it acts as a spring, providing a structure that helps distribute energy more efficiently throughout the foot. Although it is not as stiff as the carbon plates found in other high-end shoes, it does its job of improving propulsion and stability with each step.
During testing, I felt a noticeable improvement in reactivity, especially in acceleration and sprint phases.
The sole design is also innovative, with a large groove or hole at the base of the shoe that has two important functions: to lighten the overall weight of the shoe and to act as a dynamic stabilizer. When under load, the walls on either side of this groove separate, increasing the physical base of the shoe and providing greater stability.
To give you a full review, I tested the Mizuno Neo Vista on a variety of surfaces. On asphalt, the shoes performed exceptionally well. The outsole, designed with a multi-directional grip pattern, provides reliable traction even on wet surfaces. This is crucial for maintaining safety and performance in variable conditions.
On packed dirt trails, stability and support remain outstanding. However, for technical or very uneven trails, I would recommend considering a model specifically designed for trail running, as Neo Vista are more geared towards urban and semi-urban surfaces.
More height, watch out for stability
The Mizuno Neo Vista exceed the limits set by World Athletics of 40 mm for competitions, with profiles that, according to Mizuno, are 44.5 mm in heel and 36.5 mm in forefoot, and a drop of 8 mm. However, we have measured them slightly higher: 50 mm in heel and 42 mm in forefoot, keeping the same drop. This places them as one of the highest supertrainers on the market.
To compensate for this height, Mizuno has worked on stability at several levels. The base of the shoe is wider, with 124 mm in the forefoot, 91 mm in the midfoot and 102 mm in the heel. This width provides a stable platform, although it could feel unstable for runners without a well-developed running technique. It is especially relevant for those who tend towards the heel, as Neo Vista are more recommended for those who land on their midfoot or toe.
One of the most interesting innovations is the flare or slope in the midsole walls just under the arch, creating a toe-turning effect. This improves stability in the arch area, crucial given the soft feel of the foam. In addition, the presence of a large groove or hole at the base of the shoe has two important functions: to lighten the overall weight of the shoe and to act as a dynamic stabilizer. When under load, the walls on either side of this groove separate, increasing the physical base of the shoe and providing greater stability.
Typical wearer of the Mizuno Neo Vista
The Mizuno Neo Vista is designed for neutral, flat or supinator runners weighing between 65 kg and 90 kg. They are ideal for those looking for a training shoe with the highest standards of cushioning, ride quality and fit for training and long competitions at paces slower than 4:10/km on asphalt or well-maintained dirt roads. These shoes are designed for maximum comfort and performance in every training session.
Distances and performance
I tested the Mizuno Neo Vista over distances ranging from 5K to 21K half marathons. These shoes proved to be versatile and comfortable at all these distances. Their balanced cushioning and adequate support make them an excellent choice for both daily training and mid-distance racing.
For longer distance races, such as full marathons, some runners may prefer a shoe with even more robust cushioning. However, the Neo Vista offer solid and consistent performance over medium distances, where the combination of cushioning and reactivity really shines.
What I liked the most
One of the aspects that impressed me the most about the Mizuno Neo Vista is the extended comfort they offer. Even after long training sessions, I experienced no pressure points or chafing. This is largely due to the quality of the materials and the ergonomic design of the shoe.
The responsive feel thanks to the Mizuno Enerzy technology is another highlight. During acceleration phases and final sprints, I noticed an extra boost that makes it easy to maintain a high pace without excessive effort. This combination of comfort and performance is crucial for any runner looking to improve their times and enjoy every mile.
Points for improvement
Despite its many virtues, the Mizuno Neo Vista is not perfect. One of the areas for improvement is the durability of the outsole. On more abrasive terrains, I noticed a faster wear than expected. This is something to keep in mind if you plan to use them on hard surfaces frequently.
Also, while the overall stability is good, I noticed some instability if you don't have a well refined running technique. This is especially relevant for runners who tend to heel, as the Neo Vista are more recommended for those who land on their midfoot or toe. If you are a runner with a less refined technique, you may need some break-in time to feel completely confident in these shoes.
Another area of improvement is the fit and comfort in the inner heel, which could benefit from a redesign to provide a more secure fit. I also noticed that while traction is good on dry terrain, the shoes can be slippery on smooth and wet surfaces.
